Is Jesus God?
Whether Jesus Christ is God depends on the religious belief or tradition being considered.
1. Christianity
Most Christians believe yes—Jesus is God.
In mainstream Christianity, God is understood as the Trinity:
- God the Father
- God the Son (Jesus Christ)
- God the Holy Spirit
These are believed to be one God in three persons.
Christians believe Jesus is God who became human, a belief called the Incarnation.
2. Islam
In Islam, Jesus (called Isa ibn Maryam) is not considered God.
Muslims believe he was:
- A great prophet
- Born miraculously to Mary, mother of Jesus
- A messenger of God
But only God (Allah) is divine.
3. Judaism
In Judaism, Jesus is not believed to be God or the Messiah.
Judaism teaches that:
- God is one and indivisible.
- The Messiah has not yet come.
